Website Updates reported in Newsletter No 3

As reported in the News section, AST Newsletter No 3 was distributed on 23rd December.  It contains an article describing several changes that have been made to the website.  These are summarized as follows:

1  – Members’ Log-in:   Members can now log-in to the site to gain access to Members-only sections of the website. All members should by now have received an email from the website inviting them to set his/her own password.  Any member who has not received this invitation should notify and request registration.

Once logged in, Members should be able to:

  • access the Members’ Forum (see below) and make contributions to it;
  • add contributions (posts) to other topics listed on the Forums page;
  • propose new topics for the Forum.
  • request email notifications of new posts on any Forum topic;
  • post comments under News items;
  • request email notifications of new News items (posts) and comments;
  • submit News items (posts) for publication.

2 – SSL certificaton:  The website now has an SSL certificate to provide security to Members by encrypting their usernames and passwords when they log in.

3 – News “Posts” introduced:   News items are now created as “posts” allowing logged-in Members to contribute comments and submit their own news items for posting.  Members can also request email notification of news updates and other posts.  Furthermore, news items now appear in a side-bar on the Home page and on AST’s facebook page through a newly created link.

4 -Forum Section added:  A Forum section has been added to provide members with a platform for discussions.  Several discussion “topics” have been set up – viz: General Discussion Topics; Exhaust Systems; Fuels and Combustion; Lubrication; Steam Technology; and a Private Members’ Forum. Additional forum can be set up (by ) to accommodate additional subject areas as and when required.

Members can subscribe to any or all Forums by opening the Forum page and clicking on the “Subscribe” link near the top after which they should receive email notification of any posts that are added to it.

[Non-members can read Forum posts by can’t contibute comments. Furthermore, non-members can’t access posts in the Members’ Only forum.]

5 – Members’ Area:  A Members’ area has been added which is accessible only to logged-in members.  At present only the Haworth Presentations page is listed under the Members’ heading for which a password is still needed to access it (available to members from ).  More pages will be added to the Members’ are in future.
