AST Membership

AST’s membership policies are spelled out in the Constitution that was agreed and accepted at the inaugural general meeting of the Trust held in Haworth on 24th October 2015.

Three levels of membership to the Trust are available:  Associate Membership, Full Membership and Corporate Membership.  Full and Corporate members have voting rights while Associates do not.

Associate Membership is open to anyone on payment of an annual membership fee currently set at £10.  Full membership is normally offered by the General Committee to active participants in AST projects, the membership fee being set at £20 per year.  Corporate membership is available to organisations with an interest in steam locomotive technology, subject to negotiation by the General Committee.

The membership year runs from 1st Jan to 31st December, a 50% fee discount being available to new members joining on or after 1st July.

Current members are reminded that their membership fees fall due on 1st January each year. If you have not already done so, it would be appreciated if you could set up a Standing Order with your bank to pay your fee automatically each year and thereby avoid the need to send out renewal requests. AST Trust’s bank details can be found on the Standing Order Mandate in the Membership Application Form. Furthermore, if you’d care to donate the tax rebate from your membership fee in the form of Gift-Aid, please fill in the Gift Aid Declaration in the same form and send it to the Membership Secretary at the address given.

Volunteers are needed to help out in a number of important areas including:

  • Engineering and drafting assistance:
  • Promotion and marketing assistance including help producing a regular newsletter;
  • Financial / economic analysis;
  • Website assistance;
  • Legal assistance.

A wealth of information and opportunity is available to members who become involved in the project work that the group undertakes.

Anyone interested in joining the Trust is invited to download and fill in a Membership Application Form and post it to the Membership Secretary at the address given on the form. Alternatively, please contact for further information.
